Oh, hi there

I’m Stacy Lee Kong, an award-winning writer and editor. If there’s one unifying characteristic of my work, it’s that I’m always trying to use compelling, honest and beautiful storytelling to uplift underrepresented voices and prompt audiences to consider the cultural, political and social structures that impact their lives. But like, in a fun way! (See: Friday Things, the independent media brand I founded in 2020, which uses pop culture as an entry point for larger conversations about power, oppression and identity.)

Over the past two decades, I’ve worked at some of the largest magazine brands in Canada, including Flare, Canadian Living, House & Home and Chatelaine. Most recently, I was the founding editor-in-chief of 3 magazine, a national lifestyle magazine by, for and about immigrants and diasporic people.

I’m also a speaker, educator and culture critic. I will happily talk about the intersection of culture and politics forever, which has led to features in the New York Times, Refinery29, Chatelaine, the Toronto Star, as well as on TV, radio and podcasts, including CTV News, Breakfast Television and CBC’s The National, Metro Morning and Here & Now.
